Editorship of Modern Italy

Modern Italy is the journal of the ASMI association, founded in 1995. It publishes researches on the history, politics, society and cultural life of Italy and its people. Beside the periodical issues, published four times a year by Cambridge University Press, the journal also publishes special issues on selected topics, most recently: History and Memory in Italian Cinema, Modern Italian Historiography and the Legacy of Christopher Duggan, Sexuality and Power in Contemporary Italy, and Nation, ‘race’ and racisms in twentieth-century Italy. The journal has enjoyed an international and increasing readership over the course of the years.

The current editors of Modern Italy, Penny Morris and Mark Seymour, will demit office in December
2020. ASMI, therefore, invites applications for the editorship of the journal, with effect from January
2021 and for a period of five years. The successful applicants will shadow the outgoing editors during 2020. Modern Italy has customarily been jointly edited, and ASMI proposes that this should continue. Previous editorial teams have included: Martin Bull and Anna Cento Bull, Philip Cooke and John Foot. Editors are also ex officio members of the executive committee of ASMI.

Applications, which should include a 1000 word statement detailing the editorial experience of the
applicants, a vision statement for the future of the journal, a description of any potential institutional support and full CVs, should be sent to the ASMI Secretary: asmi.secretary@gmail.com by 5.00 pm on September 13 2019. All applicants should be members of the association.

Interviews, if required, will take place in London on the morning of Friday 25 October 2019.
