The winner of the 2018 prize, announced at the ASMI conference in November, is Caterina Scalvedi, of the University of Illinois at Chicago, for her essay 'Catholic Missionaries in Italian Somalia: Baptisms, Education, and the "Problem" of Meticci (1924–1930)'. The deadline for submissions for the 2019 prize is 31 July.
Christopher Seton-Watson Memorial
The Christopher Seton-Watson Memorial prize for the best article published in the journal Modern Italy in 2012 has been awarded to Giacomo Lichtner for his article ‘The age of innocence? Child narratives and Italian Holocaust films’, published in Modern Italy, 17, 2, 2012.
Giacomo Lichtner is Senior Lecturer in History and Film in the School of History, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations Victoria University of Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand. The decision was taken by a panel made up of Claudia Baldoli (Newcastle University, Chair) and the editors of Modern Italy, Phil Cooke and John Foot. The prize will be awarded before the keynote session of the ASMI conference in 2013.
