Stuart Oglethorpe is a freelance translator of academic texts, working from Italian into English and specialising in Modern Italian History. His first degree was in Social and Political Sciences (Cambridge). He subsequently acquired another BA, in Language Studies (Italian) at Leeds Metropolitan, which was followed by an MA in Contemporary Italian Culture and History, at University College London (UCL), and a PhD in Italian History and Cultural Studies, also at UCL, awarded in 2009. His doctoral research was on social and economic change in the countryside of central Italy after the Second World War. He was a part-time Teaching Fellow at UCL until 2011, and then a Lecturer in Italian at the University of Manchester until 2013. He now teaches occasionally at the University of Sheffield, in Translation Studies, and retains his connection with Manchester as an Honorary Research Fellow.
